Starbrow's Textwalls

First and foremost, welcome to the Iron Edge blog! If you’re reading this on the front page of www.iron-edge.co.uk, I must’ve managed to write something Delling semi-approves of, and gotten it onto the site for you to read.

So, with the Black Temple finally implemented, the lovely population of WoW can start looking forward to whatever Blizzard might want to throw at them, in regards to new content. But what can we be looking forward to, other than the already announced Zul’Aman instance in the Ghostlands? I’ve done some looking into the Warcraft lore, and visited a few places around Azeroth, in order to give unknowing souls an idea of what the future might hold in store for us. The point of this blog is not to give any bid of which will come first, but just a glimpse into the possibilities of future areas in WoW.

There is quite a lot of places that can be chosen by Blizzard when it comes to new zones to develop for us to see, and I don’t think you’ll all be interested in reading a deep thorough rundown of each and every one of them, which means I’m going to give a short description of what the places are, where they’ve been spoken about, and what I (personally) think they might hold in store for us.

First and foremost there is of course Northrend, housing the Lich King/Arthas Menethil. There have been some fake maps in circulation of it, but in the places I’ve been able to see some discussions about the place, it is widely believed to be a whole continent, like Kalimdor/Azeroth/Outland. The map is based on an RPG book from Blizzard. Other than Arthas himself, we can probably expect to meet Malygos (if we’re lucky), the prime dragon of the Blue Dragonflight. There is also an ancient Earthen city, called Ulduar, located in Northrend.

The next area of interest that can make up an entire continent, if not more, is the Emerald Dream. According to lore, this place is a sort of other “dimension” a magical one, that overlays the normal world. This means, that in theory, it could cover all the known landmasses of Azeroth. Malfurion Stormrage (Illidans twin) is located somewhere in the Emerald Dream, which is governed by Ysera, the prime dragon of the Green Dragonflight. Tigole spoke about the Emerald Dream back in 2004 (link), but for some reason, the zone has yet to make it into the game. There is very little lore out in the open about what’s going on in the Dream, and what players are likely to find in it, so most of what can be said at the moment is guesswork.

Another zone that I believe we’re likely to encounter at some point in the future is the Goblin capital “The Undermine”. The place is said to be placed below one of the islands in the Great Sea, maybe here?. How this zone should be of interest to players (other than the cool factor) is beyond me at the moment, since Goblins are generally neutral in WoW. Also located in the Great Sea, or rather in the Maelstrom, is the capital of the Naga race, Nazjatar. It’s supposed to be located at the very centre of the huge whirlpool, with either the old Night Elf queen, Azshara, as the final boss, or one of the chained Old Gods.

Moving on, in the southern part of Tanaris, is the gates of Uldum, one of the old Earthen cities, where Uldaman and Ulduar are the others. There are rumours of an Old God (like C’thun) chained in this place, but it is mainly speculation. Another old Earthen stronghold is at Ursolan, which has been taken over by furbolgs. Something faintly resembling Uldaman is probably likely. Speaking of dwarves, there is also their former stronghold of Grim Batol, which is now a red dragonflight hatchery. Blackwing Lair Mk. II?

In the human department, there are the two kingdoms of Gilneas and Kul’Tiras, both located in the western part of Azeroth, with Gilneas just south of Silverpine, and Kul’Tiras on a set of islands off the coast of Azeroth (west from Menethil Harbour). There is no sources of information on what the present state of Gilneas is, other than hiding behind its wall, as it was forgotten by Blizzard (when directly asked about Gilneas, Metzen's comment was "How do we say we forgot about it without saying we forgot about it?"), but Kul’Tiras should still be doing well on its own, having rebuilt most of its fleet after Jaine Proudmoore left for Kalimdor with half of it.

The last speculative area/boss I can imagine should be put into the game sooner or later will be the dragon Deathwing, prime Aspect of the Black Dragonflight. This guy is semi-confirmed to still be alive, as he is mentioned by some of his followers at the Netherwing Ledge. Where his lair is currently set is hard to say.

That’s all that I could dig up on locations in WoW yet to be discovered, but knowing Blizzard, they could easily pull another “Draenei” and invent something out of the blue for us to (hopefully) enjoy! I hope this wall of text has sparked some interests in some of the areas of our lovely game :)
